PackUK, working on behalf of the four UK nations, has set 1 September 2026 as the deadline for producers to correct and resubmit 2025 packaging data where needed. It is a technical change, but one with real weight for businesses and councils alike, because this data will shape the next round of pEPR charges. Under packaging Extended Producer Responsibility, or pEPR, producers pay towards the cost of managing household packaging waste. That means more accurate reporting is not just a paperwork exercise. It affects what firms are billed and how confidently local authorities can plan waste and recycling budgets.

The new timetable gives producers a five-month window from the 1 April reporting deadline to fix errors. PackUK says the aim is to get the numbers settled early enough for fees and formal payment notices to be published later in 2026 without another round of recalculations. For a scheme that has left some businesses trying to price risk on moving data, that added certainty matters. It should also help reduce the stop-start effect that fee revisions can have on packaging decisions, procurement plans and year-end budgeting.

After 1 September, regulators will continue checking submissions for compliance, but the line on liability will be much firmer. PackUK will use the corrected data to publish confirmed producer fees for 2026/27 and issue Notices of Liability later this calendar year. Those notices are the formal statements telling producers what they owe. PackUK published illustrative Year 2 fees in December 2025, but it does not intend to publish another illustrative set. In other words, the next fee figures should be the confirmed ones businesses can budget against.

The payment terms themselves are not changing. As in Year 1, producers will have 50 calendar days to pay once their notices arrive, and instalment payments will still be available. That does not remove the cost pressure, but it does preserve some flexibility for firms managing cashflow. Producers reporting through compliance schemes should move sooner rather than later. PackUK's advice is to speak to those schemes now to confirm what information needs to be supplied and by when, rather than leaving corrections until the final weeks of August.

There is a wider reason PackUK is making the change. According to the body, the goal is to improve data stability and cut in-year fee volatility so businesses can plan with more confidence while local authorities get greater certainty over pEPR payments. That is a practical step worth noting. When packaging data is unstable, the scheme cannot send clear signals about the real cost of waste, and councils are left planning services around shifting figures. Cleaner data will not solve every pressure in the system, but it gives the policy a better chance of working as intended.

The immediate task for producers is clear: review 2025 packaging data now and resubmit any corrections by 1 September 2026. After that date, further resubmissions will no longer change Notices of Liability or disposal fees for this cycle, even though firms must still keep their data as accurate as reasonably possible for recycling obligations.
